Kingdom Death Survivors in Various Armour

In this commission, I’ve completed 16 Kingdom Death Monster miniatures, all painted to my Level 3 Quality standard for a dedicated collector looking to bring their settlement to life. This commission featured a diverse group of survivors with various armour. The variety in armour types made this project particularly engaging, as each piece required different techniques and approaches to achieve the right look and feel.

Rawhide Armour – These pieces required careful attention to texture and weathering. I built up the leather-like surfaces using multiple thin glazes to achieve that raw, untanned hide appearance. The natural variations in tone help sell the handcrafted, survival-focused nature of the gear.

Leather Armour – More refined than the rawhide pieces, these armours got the full Level 3 treatment with 2-4 layers of shadows and highlights. I focused on creating realistic leather textures while maintaining the worn, practical look that fits the setting’s harsh world.

Screaming Fur Armour—Perhaps the most visually striking of the four, these pieces allowed me to experiment with fur textures and the unsettling aesthetic that Kingdom Death is famous for. The organic, leather  appearance of these armours required careful colour transitions and detailed work to capture their otherworldly nature.

White Lion Armour – Several miniatures wore this iconic armour set, crafted from the hide and mane of one of the game’s most fearsome nemeses. The white and cream tones required careful colour management to avoid looking flat, using subtle warm and cool shadows to maintain visual interest while preserving the pristine White Lion’s legendary pelt.

The Level 3 Difference
Each miniature received the full Level 3 treatment: careful assembly, professional undercoating, multiple layers of basecoats, shadows, and highlights, detailed facial work, and edge highlighting on all the hard surfaces. The weathering effects help tell the story of survivors who’ve faced countless horrors, while the protective matte varnish ensures these pieces will hold up to regular gaming sessions.

Kingdom Death Monster miniatures are always a pleasure to work on due to their incredible detail and unique aesthetic. This commission really allowed me to showcase the range of techniques that go into Level 3 quality work, from texture painting and weathering to object lighting effects.
