Here is another commission piece: the mighty Leman Russ, Primarch of the Space Wolves Legion from Warhammer 30k’s Horus Heresy. This character piece was completed to our Level 5 standard – our highest quality offering – and the results speak for themselves.
The Wolf King in All His Glory
For this commission, we opted for a more historically accurate Heresy-era color scheme, utilising a slightly more muted grey palette than the vibrant blue-grey often associated with modern Space Wolves. This subtle shift helps anchor the model firmly in the grim darkness of the 30k setting, while still maintaining the unmistakable identity of the VI Legion.
The armor deserved special attention, so we employed full Non-Metallic Metal (NMM) techniques to create the illusion of burnished ceramite and gleaming metal without using any metallic paints. The dimensionality and light reflections were carefully considered from every viewing angle to ensure the model looks spectacular regardless of how it’s displayed.
Technical Highlights
The most stand out aspect of this project for me was undoubtedly the power sword. I opted for a purple energy glow effect that contrasts beautifully with the cooler tones of the armor. The gradual transition from the deepest violet to bright lilac creates a sense of otherworldly power emanating from the blade.
Every detail received meticulous attention – from the intricate runes carved into the armor to the textured fur cloak and the weathered leather straps. The face capture’s Leman’s fierce determination and barely contained fury, a testament to the Wolf King’s legendary temperament.

This centerpiece model will now take pride of place in the client’s Heresy-era Space Wolves collection, serving as both an impressive display piece and a formidable presence on the battlefield.
